We built our world to organize our bewildering existence and to divert ourselves from the inevitability of death. Yet, however heroic our efforts, there are moments when we can no longer avoid the inevitable flow of existence.
The fluid river, uncontrollable, rejuvenating, chaotic, ineffable -- represents forces beyond our mastery. In the river, we confront the uncertain and primitive reality of life.

We marvel at the spectacle of a river that gave birth to our civilization. We have almost forgotten her importance, even wished to overcome her. But here, in this place, we now rediscover the taciturn one who cradles us. We dare not pierce the river’s skin; instead, we stretch a naïve and hesitating probe to her surface and listen closely for her sounds.
